In the forest of caravels!

On this tour you will experience a unique landscape. Even the village Barão de São João has so much charm and is still very original. The forest area (the Mata Nacional de Barão de São João) in this wonderful place is 5000 hectares. There you can discover a variety of plants and animals. In the 15th century this forest was important as a timber supplier for the construction of caravels (the ships of the Portuguese explorers). You will pass an impressive wind farm, whose sounds seem a bit scary and unreal - in the middle of this idyllic nature. Due to the large water resources in this area, you can expect a great biodiversity. You will cycle along rippling rivers in this hilly landscape, perhaps even encounter kingfishers and hoopoes. Between acacia, pine and eucalyptus there are very good rideable forest and meadow paths.
